ART VERSUS SCIENCE - THE COLOUR FASCINATION
Self-taught 33yo contemporary artist Leni Kae (dip Colour Therapy) from Sydney Australia has painted since age 9. She has a very holistic perspective on art and a deep consideration for how structure and semiotics in art can shape viewer's emotional experience. What evolved was a natural discovery of the unbreakable link between art and science.
The Australian contemporary artist and trained colour specialist integrates semiotics of shape, composition and colour psychology to produce artworks with powerful subconscious and sensory triggers, or what she refers to as "Energy Art".
"Leni Kae's works vibrantly interact with viewers, prompting sensory awakening, eliciting positive memories, and inviting self evaluation."
Colour is a particular fascination of the artist; the powerful effects of color and semiotics, which together can alter moods, trigger hormonal reactions, and awaken dormant memories, are vital to a dually artistic and scientific mission. Her works vibrantly interact with viewers, prompting sensory awakening, eliciting positive memories, and inviting self evaluation. Line work is also a distinctive feature in Kae's artwork, with the artist saying they are "representative of waves of our thoughts, reaching out like energetic extensions of the soul or spirit of the work".

THE SPIRIT OF UNITY:
There is without doubt to me a beauty that comes from the spirit of unity, the idea that although we exist as individuals, we are inherently bound by uniting qualities such as human emotion, senses, experience, and dreams. My inspiration as an artist stems greatly from this idea. I like to focus on commonalities of our existence; the colour that excites us, and the dream and emotion that unite us.
A subconscious 'pull' to a work of art can have the power to expose what our inner consciousness desires at that moment; what we need to liberate subconscious emotion, memory or thought in order to heighten our individual potential. We may be drawn to a blue and openly flowing piece of art for example because it reminds us of the relaxing openness of the ocean, and at that time we might desire reflection or peacefulness. It has the power to awaken us and our emotions, and I love this possibility in art. My artistic expression is best summarised by the statement:
"Emotion, memory, dreams that have been hidden are given permission to to be free."
FASCINATED BY COLOUR & SYMBOLISM:
Colour, symbolism and abstraction is integral to my intention as an artist. Integrating colour psychology and the semiotics of design, as well as cultural symbolism means that triggers can be created to expose memories or emotions.
Abstraction is also applied as a m[...]

Philosophical Fish
I’ve spent a great deal of my life trying to figure out the “Purpose” of myself, life and the vast world around me. I mean to say, there are questions we ask ourselves and that we ask those we feel are greater than us intellectually; yet no matter the verbal, tactile, visual or physical responses we receive from others or even within our own minds, nothing seems to truly resonate, nothing seems to hold.
More to the point, questions about subjects as vast as God, the soul, the University, the dawn of intelligence and as infinitesimal as the reason why we cry or have certain particular likes and fears we choose…the answers are something we cannot even begin to find within the limiting realm of conscious thought. Science on paper and even words from the mouth of a Guru cannot resonate with your particular understanding of yourself and the world.
I often wonder, how is it that an animal without a complex brain, like a fish, knows exactly where to swim, what to eat and who to avoid…or a being as small as a white blood cell knows it’s full purpose, yet we, infinitely more complex beings, have no concrete clue.
At the early age of eight, after I’d been playing with a toy keyboard already for several years, I came to the aforementioned realization; the realization that medium in which true meaning must be communicated to me and in which I must communicate is not simply with words, not simply with the expression of emotion…but with music.
My el[...]
