Biography
Sima Schloss grew up in a suburb on the south shore of Long Island and studied art at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island and graduated in 1993. Shortly thereafter she moved to New York City, where, as she states, “My life really began.” Her artwork is often a reflection on crucial and jarring moments in the past. She says, “I try to capture the emotion related to the experience. Some of my images are jarringly clear and others are more muted.” She describes her work as honest, raw yet colorful. “ My work is based on process, not product .Whenever I create, It’s a very emotional experience. My goal is for the viewer to experience my process.”
Her work is in numerous private and public collections including those of Tina Tang Studio, and Miss Sixty Inc.
She has exhibited her work in group and solo shows internationally, including : : “Mayhem”, Gallery Underground, Arlington, Virginia ; Lighthouse studios, Brooklyn, NY ; Colorida Gallery, Lisbon, Portugal; Cue Art Foundation, New York, NY; The Yes Gallery, Brooklyn, NY; and the Fountain Art Fair in Miami, Florida.
She has been featured on the December 2013 cover of ArtAscent magazine with an honorable mention. She has also been featured in Professional Artists Magazine, and Top Websites Annual Art guide to the Internet. She was selected as “artist of the year “ on the Blog www.artandartdeadlines.com
Currently, Sima is also adjunct professor at Hostos Community College in the Bronx. She works with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in their education department teaching art to ESL and GED students. She has recently been accepted to the Lehman College MFA program.
