Wearable Art: 5 Fashion Forward Looks That Rocked The SAG Awards
Forget this year’s Oscars! The 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards offers a wildly gorgeous array of surprisingly fresh looks that will surely influence future fashion to come. (It also showed that 69-year-old Susan Sarandon is still too legit to quit.)
The January 30th telecast, featured television and film luminaries wearing unpredictably dope designs from up-and-comers including Erdem and Peter Pilotto.
To use two-time 2016 SAG Award winner Idris Elba words to best summarize the gowns seen at last night’s SAG Awards: “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to diverse TV.”

While actress Mad Men‘s Sola Bamis stole the red carpet wearing a marigold-hued bow dress by Lola Wusu, American Horror Story‘s Sarah Paulson surprised many with a black velvet and jewel-toned fringed gown.
New Spins On Vintage
Wearing a bespoke Rachel Comey dress and turquoise grandma heels, Transparent‘s Gaby Hoffman, is the best example of vintage as new-and-modern. Another stand out: Alicia Vikander’s Louis Vuitton number featuring traditional color-blocking of black, silver, and gold. And while the actress took home an award for best female actor in a supporting role for The Danish Girl, her look was already a winner in itself.

2016 SAG Award winner Uzo Aduba scored gigantic points for her emerald striped and sequin Zac Posen dress. And her Orange Is The New Black co-star Samira Wiley’s slam-dunk came in the way of a white bespoke Christian Siriano creation.
Game of Thrones‘s Emilia Clarke wore a plunging Dior number in magenta that was also a daring winner on the red carpet.
Florals

Floral prints are always a go-to favorite when it comes to awards show dresses. However, at this year’s SAG Awards, florals appeared in inventive lacy gowns, bold printed dresses and embroidery.
Saiorse Ronan’s winning long-sleeved Michael Kors gown and Naomi Watts’ eye-opening blue Burberry number were bright surprises. And more unheralding floral creations included Christina Ricci’s soft-pink Christopher Kane dress and Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka’s amethyst-colored number by Erdem.
Cut-Outs, Knots, & Twists
Another out-of-the-blue number was worn by 2016 best actress winner Brie Larson, sporting in a baby blue Versace with an unanticipated orange strap in the back. However, even though January Jones’s seaform-hued Schiaparelli stayed firmly rooted tradition, the ruffled and twisted shoulder straps offered something dream-like and fortuitous.
